　　in time， on time

　　(1) in time 除了譯作“及時(shí)”，還可譯作“最終”或“總有一天”。

　　Her helping me in time saved me plenty of time.

　　她的及時(shí)幫助使我省了很多時(shí)間。

　　(2) on time，意為“準(zhǔn)時(shí)”

　　Everyone is requiredtobe present atthe party on time.

　　要求每個(gè)人準(zhǔn)時(shí)參加聚會(huì)。

　　time 組成的詞組已學(xué)過(guò)的還有： at a time (一次)， in no time (立刻)， at that (the) time(那時(shí))， at times (有時(shí))， at any time (在任何時(shí)候)等。

　　persuade， advise

　　兩個(gè)詞都有“勸”之意，persuade表示結(jié)果，advise只強(qiáng)調(diào)動(dòng)作。

　　We advised (or： tried to persuade) him to stop talking，but hc refused.

　　我們勸(試圖勸服)他別談了但他不聽(tīng)。

　　I persuade him to stop smoking. tie now looks better.

　　我勸服他戒了煙。現(xiàn)在他看上去更健康了。

　　[注意] persuade 表示“說(shuō)服某人做/不做某事”除了persuade sb. to / not to do...結(jié)構(gòu)，還有persuade sb. into doing sth. / out of doing sth. 如：

　　He persuaded me into leaving soon.

　　他勸服我馬上離開(kāi)。

　　dead， deadly， dying

　　三個(gè)詞都可以作形容詞，但含義各不相同。dead意為“死了”，反義詞是alive，表示死亡狀態(tài)；deadly意為“致命的”表示抽象意義；dying意為“臨死的”。

　　The dog has been dead for hours.

　　這條狗死了幾個(gè)小時(shí)了。

　　That is a deadly snake.

　　這是一條致命的蛇。

　　The dying man tried to my mmething.

　　這個(gè)快死的人試圖想說(shuō)什么。

　　[注意] dead，dying可在前面加 the 作名詞用；deadly還有“死氣沉沉”之意。如：

　　The dead (dying) were being taken away from the spot.

　　當(dāng)時(shí)死者 (快死的人) 正從現(xiàn)場(chǎng)被抬走。

　　The lecture is deadly. Many began to leave.

　　演講太沉悶了。許多人開(kāi)始離開(kāi)。

　　observe， watch

　　當(dāng)“觀察”來(lái)講時(shí)，observe相當(dāng)于watch carefully，尤其用于實(shí)驗(yàn)或研究等場(chǎng)合。具體來(lái)說(shuō)，observe含有“察覺(jué)到”的意思，watch意為“盯著看”。

　　watch 還含有“觀看(比賽、電視)”等，而observe沒(méi)有此意。另外，watch還有“照料”之意，相當(dāng)于take care of。還有“當(dāng)心”之意，相當(dāng)于be careful with。

　　She has observed the stars all her life.

　　她一生都在觀察星星。

　　I'll watch the baby while you are away.

　　你不在時(shí)，由我照料你女兒。

　　You'd better watch Mr Smith， I think he is a thief.
